Arsenal face a race against time to use their former player in an attempt to sign a specific striker during this summer transfer window.
The Gunners are pursuing a deal for Benjamin Sesko after trying to sign the RB Leipzig centre-forward last year. Viktor Gyokeres is another name of interest after an impressive couple of campaigns in Portugal for Sporting CP.
However, neither appears close to becoming an Arsenal player at this stage, with the cost of doing business seemingly becoming a problem amid ongoing negotiations between the clubs. They are not, though, the only two strikers available on the market.

Victor Boniface reputedly could leave Bayer Leverkusen after almost departing during the winter transfer window. A move to Al-Nassr collapsed in late January as the Saudi Pro League side signed Jhon Duran from Aston Villa instead.
Fabrizio Romano claims both parties may belatedly part ways six months later should they receive a good proposal. New options are said to be available on the market.
Boniface has previously acknowledged being a boyhood Arsenal fan and has one of the club's current captains, Granit Xhaka, as a teammate. However, that seems set to change.
Calciomercato claims the Swiss midfielder has reached an agreement to join AC Milan. They now need to make a deal with Leverkusen, with the Italian club reputedly considering making an offer around £10million.
Boniface has previously spoken highly of the Switzerland international. "He has experience, maturity and he's a top professional," the striker said on last year.
"We have a young squad, but with Granit, it feels like we've been playing for a long time because he talks to us and tries to help us." Arsenal could use that relationship to their advantage, while it still exists, should they turn to Boniface.
