Christopher Nkunku is not high on Manchester United's list for the centre forward role, despite Chelsea showing interest in Alejandro Garnacho and there being the potential of a swap deal.
Chelsea had thought about making a move for Garnacho during the winter transfer window when a potential swap deal involving Nkunku was first suggested, with United in need of a striker.
Insiders believe Chelsea are once again trying to stir up interest in Garnacho, who is expected to depart after five years in Manchester. United did not pursue Nkunku in the mid-season window as they were unwilling to settle for a short-term solution.

Now that Garnacho is free to leave following a fallout with United coach Ruben Amorim, Chelsea have brought up the possibility of a swap once more, but United have other players in mind ahead of Nkunku.
United have put forward an improved offer of over £60million for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo and are determined to sign a striker after Liam Delap chose to join Chelsea.
Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt are two forwards being considered by United, who are looking to offload up to five forwards.
Nkuknku has endured a difficult Chelsea career so far, beset by injuries in his first season under Mauricio Pochettino and then struggling to make an impact in the first team under Enzo Maresca, with the frontman used mainly as the striker in the Conference League matches.
The Frenchman started just nine Premier League games in 2024/25 and is expected to leave Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window, particularly given Delap's arrival in west London, but it does not look like being to United as part of a swap deal for Garnacho.
