Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on May 26 and 27 to inaugurate a wide range of development projects worth Rs 24,000 crore. This visit comes soon after India’s recent military operation, and the events are expected to draw massive public participation, including a grand roadshow and celebrations by thousands of BJP workers. The Prime Minister’s itinerary covers key infrastructure, water supply, and civic development initiatives across several districts in Gujarat, underlining the government’s commitment to accelerating growth in the state.
Major Infrastructure and Railway Initiatives
During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate significant railway projects, including the new Locomotive Manufacturing Shop at the Rolling Stock Workshop in Dahod, constructed at a cost of over Rs 21,400 crore by the Ministry of Railways. He will also dedicate the country’s first 9000 HP locomotive engine developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The Dahod plant, for which the foundation was laid by Modi in 2022, marks a major step in boosting domestic railway manufacturing capacity.
Additionally, Modi will inaugurate railway line expansions and upgrades totaling Rs 2,287 crore. These include doubling of the Anand-Godhra, Mehsana-Palanpur, and Rajkot-Hadmatiya lines, electrification of the 107 km Sabarmati-Botad railway section, and gauge conversion work on the Kalol-Kadi-Katosan line. These projects aim to improve rail connectivity and efficiency across the state.
Water Supply and Urban Development Projects
The Prime Minister will also launch several water supply schemes worth Rs 181 crore to provide clean drinking water to over 193 villages and one town in the Mahisagar and Dahod districts. These projects guarantee 100 liters per capita per day of potable water, addressing a crucial need in these regions. Key schemes include the Namnar Sudharna Juth Pani Purvatha Yojana and Kheroli Juth Sudharna Pani Purvatha Yojana.
In addition to water projects, PM Modi will inaugurate development works worth Rs 233 crore under the Dahod Smart City initiative. These include public amenities like the Municipality Building and Tribal Museum, alongside police housing projects valued at Rs 53 crore. The visit also features foundation stone ceremonies for important road infrastructure projects in Vadodara and Balasinor, covering multi-lane road expansions and new bridges, further enhancing urban mobility and connectivity.
The Gujarat visit highlights the government’s focus on infrastructure modernization, water security, and urban development, signaling a robust agenda for the state’s continued progress.
