India Womenare slated to go through a week's preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam ahead of the upcoming Women's World Cup, which is scheduled to commence on September 30.
The camp is reported to commence the day after (August 24) the team lands in Visakhapatnam. The exact timetable is yet to be out. The camp is set to include the whole 15-member squad in addition to the reserve players.
“Those team members who are in Australia for the ongoing ‘A’ tour may join the camp directly in Visakhapatnam after the four-day game," stated sources as per a report by News18.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team took part in a 10-day training camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru which focused on aspects such as strength & conditioning, match simulations and skill-specific drills.
Visakhapatnam has been chosen as the location to hold the camp quite strategically. The Women in Blue will be locking horns with South Africa Women and defending champions Australia Women at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on October 9 and 12, respectively.
The 15-member squad and five reserve players for the mega event was announced by skipper Harmanpreet and chairperson of the selection panel of the women's team, Neetu David, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Wednesday, August 19.
Renuka Singh Thakur and Amanjot Kaur have been in the squad after recovering from injuries. However, Amanjot has been rested for the three-match 50-over series against India prior to the World Cup to manage a back issue. Shafali Verma, although part of India A's squad for the warm-up fixtures, was left out of the main squad.
India will kickstart their campaign in the eight-team tournament against co-hosts Sri Lanka Women on September 30. They are yet to win the Women's World Cup, having come runners-up in 2005 and 2017.
