Following formal requests from the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy in Tehran on Saturday said that it will now extend its evacuation efforts under Operation Sindhu to include citizens from both neighbouring countries.
The decision comes amid Iran's ongoing conflict with Israel entering the ninth day.
Operation Sindhu was launched by the Indian government in response to the deteriorating situation in Iran and to evacuate Indian naionals to safer places. So far, 517 Indian nationals have been evacuated via special flights and border movements, with efforts continuing to bring a total of 1,000 Indian nationals.

The Indian Embassy said that Nepalese and Sri Lankan nationals currently in Iran who wish to be evacuated should immediately contact the Embassy through its dedicated Telegram channel or via emergency helpline numbers.

Iran's rare exception for India
In a rare move amid escalating regional tensions, Iran has opened its airspace to facilitate the evacuation of Indian students stranded in the country. The Indian government confirmed that Tehran has approved three special flights from Mashhad to New Delhi, scheduled to operate Friday night and Saturday.
Iranian airspace remains closed to most international carriers due to ongoing missile and drone attacks between Iranian and Israeli forces.
An estimated 1,000 Indian students are expected to return under this phase of Operation Sindhu.
Earlier this week, the Indian government evacuated a group of 110 students from Urmia University in northern Iran. These students crossed the land border into Yerevan, Armenia, and were then flown to New Delhi. Among them were 94 students from Jammu and Kashmir, with others from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
In a parallel effort, India has also initiated evacuation plans for its citizens in Israel. On Thursday, the government announced that Indian nationals in Israel will be evacuated through land borders, followed by air travel to India under the same Operation Sindhu framework.
The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv is coordinating logistics for those affected. In an advisory, the embassy urged citizens to remain alert and follow all safety instructions issued by local Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command.
