Good Morning Britain star Ranvir Singh shared a "chilling" news update on Monday (September 8) as fans said the same thing.

During today's edition of the hit ITV programme, hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls updated viewers on the latest news across the UK and around the world.

Ranvir delivered the rest of the day's news, while Laura Tobin presented regular weather updates.

Later in the show, Ranvir revealed that an Australian woman convicted of murdering three elderly relatives of her estranged husband with poisonous death cap mushrooms has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 33 years.

Erin Patterson was convicted in July for killing three relatives and trying to kill another at a family lunch in 2023, where she served them beef Wellingtons laced with toxic death cap mushrooms.

"Erin Patterson, who had maintained her innocence throughout the trial, was found guilty of the triple murder and attempted murder of a fourth person in July," Ranvir said.

She continued: "The judge said she will likely be held in solitary confinement for years to come," before handing over to reporter Penny Liersch, who was live in Melbourne.

"Erin Patterson, she still maintains her innocence, claiming that it was all a terrible accident that the mushrooms that she foraged made their way into this meal," Penny said.

"The judge completely disagreed when handing down his sentence today, noting the level of premeditation.

"Also, that the killer would have known that the victims would suffer long deaths because of the organ failure this type of mushroom induces."

Penny concluded: "We are expecting Erin Patterson to lodge an appeal against her conviction. There is now 28 days for her legal team to do that."

However, the show's viewers were left confused, with one person writing on X (formerly Twitter): "Might be big in Australian news, but why report it here?"

Another said: "GMB....... An Australian woman get life for murder in Australia? UK headline news," while a third fan shared: "We're not in Australia."

Meanwhile, other viewers noted how "horrific" the story was, with one writing: "That's proper chilling, isn't it?"

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
