Tonight, Channel 4 will air documentary Lucy Letby: Murder or Mistake. Letby is serving 15 life sentences for the murder and attempted murder of multiple infants, but says she's innocent. The series will cover both side of Letby's case.
Ex-nurse Lucy Letby, 35, is serving a whole life order for the murders of seven infants and the attempted murders of seven others.
Speaking on his role as barrister, McDonald said: "Yes, I represent a woman who I say, there was a miscarriage of justice, but behind this there are a lot of families who have suffered. And if she's innocent, they've suffered needlessly by going through a trial."

Ed added: "Many of those families find you talking about this in the way you do, advocating for someone who has been convicted. They find it very distressing."
Lucy Letby has been convicted by a court of law, with evidence, considered by a jury. Her barrister wants to have that overturned, as he believes there has been a miscarriage of justice.
Mark McDonald, who took over her legal team in September 2024 and is planning a fresh appeal to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).
McDonald claims that he now has "26 separate experts, over 1000 pages of fresh evidence that have gone before to CCRC, probably more so than in any other case that the CCRC have ever dealt with. I know that they are working hard and through all that evidence right now."
Lucy's barrister is visiting her in prison, as Ed asked whether Lucy believes that it's possible for her conviction to be overturned.
"Is she more confident? Has her mood changed?" he asked.
"Yes. A year ago, when I went to see her, she'd lost everything. She'd been saying she was innocent right from the beginning and no one really believed her. She was a broken woman.
"But now she has hope. Seeing all these experts come out and say 'no crime was committed' she has hope and belief that people will listen to her, and this position will be overturned."
Channel 4’s film, which airs tonight, will follow the fight to overturn Letby’s conviction. The film will question expert testimony and expose deep divisions over whether she is guilty or the victim of a miscarriage of justice.
