A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where assistant manager Ankit Goyal of Bank of Baroda died by suicide after alleged harassment and threats from his wife. The case came to light on August 2 when Ankit’s body was discovered in a hotel room on Delhi Road. The hotel staff alerted police after Ankit failed to emerge the following day, prompting officers to break down the door and find his body with foam at the mouth, indicating he had consumed poison.
Ankit’s mother, Rupa Devi, has filed a complaint accusing his wife of severe harassment, claiming her daughter-in-law demanded ₹20 lakh from Ankit and threatened to implicate him in a false dowry case if he did not comply by August 4. According to the mother, the couple had a love marriage in April 2017 after meeting as colleagues at Bank of Baroda in Mainpuri. However, marital discord reportedly began soon after, with the wife allegedly pressuring Ankit for divorce.
Since June, the couple had been living separately, and Ankit was reportedly stressed by repeated threats of legal action. On August 1, following a heated phone conversation in which his wife allegedly renewed her dowry demand, Ankit left home and checked into the hotel. He was found dead the next morning. Ankit is said to have recorded a video message before his death. Police have initiated an investigation and confirmed that further action will depend on its findings.
