The tragic murder of national tennis player Radhika Yadav in Gurugram's Sector 57 has left the sports world and public stunned. What’s even more horrifying is that her own father, Deepak Yadav, pulled the trigger, ending the life of a rising Indian tennis star.
What Led to the Murder?
According to the FIR and Deepak Yadav's own confession, tensions between father and daughter had been building for months. Radhika had opened her own tennis academy after sustaining a shoulder injury that forced her to take a break from professional play. Her goal was simple: stay connected to the sport and earn a livelihood through coaching.
However, Deepak Yadav was reportedly unhappy with this decision. He repeatedly pressured Radhika to shut down the academy. His frustration grew over time, allegedly fueled by taunts from neighbors who mocked him for living off his daughter's income. These taunts, he claimed, made him feel humiliated.
The Day of the Crime
The incident occurred around 10:30 AM. Radhika was in the kitchen on the first floor of their home, when Deepak, in a fit of rage, fired five rounds from his licensed revolver. Three bullets hit Radhika, killing her on the spot. His wife, Manju Yadav, was resting in another room at the time and heard the gunshots. Deepak’s brother and nephew rushed upstairs, only to find Radhika lying lifeless and soaked in blood.
The revolver was recovered from a nearby table with only one round left. Deepak did not attempt to flee and was arrested shortly after.
A Career Cut Short
Radhika Yadav was just 24 years old and had already made a name for herself in Indian tennis. Born on March 23, 2000, she had represented India at the international level and achieved a doubles ranking of 113 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF), placing her among the top 200 players globally. Her passion and achievements made her one of the most promising talents in Indian sports.
