Bhubaneswar: A 50-year-old woman sustained grievous burns after she allegedly set herself on fire over domestic dispute in Odisha’s Balasore district on Thursday.
The incident took place in ADM Square area under the jurisdiction of Sahadevkhunta police station in Balasore in the afternoon.
The incident comes close on the heels of the death of a female student of FM Autonomous College, Balasore after she set herself ablaze alleging harassment by faculty member and authorities of the educational institution.
As per information, the woman set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene on the body inside their kitchen. Her husband who was then doing some work in another room rushed to rescue her.
The woman reportedly suffered 70 per cent burn injuries in the incident and was immediately rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by the locals.
She was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated.
The woman’s husband also sustained burn injuries while trying to save her. He is undergoing treatment at Balasore DHH.
