Many will head to Europe, where countries like Spain, Portugal, France and Italy remain favourite destinations. When it comes to choosing a destination, safety will feature high on the list of priorities.
A new report carried out by Riviera Travel has listed the top ten safest cities to in Europe and to are particular favourites with Brits. To conduct the Safest Destinations Index, Riviera Travel compiled a seed list of 40 popular European cities outside the UK and analysed crime data using Numbeo's Crime Index. Riviera Travel's index evaluates cities based on two factors: current crime levels and the crime rate increase in the past five years. In Numbeo's index, a score of 0 represents the lowest level of crime, while 100 indicates the highest.
Despite rising crime rates (46.64), the Hungarian capital's crime level remains moderate (30.30), earning it a 76.94 score and a position among Europe's safest destinations.

The European city, known and loved for its natural beauty and high-end retail scene, has experienced a "moderate" increase in crime rates in the past five years; however, its crime levels remain low, solidifying its spot among the continent's top 10 safest destinations.
Iceland's distinctive capital offers visitors the chance to experience Nordic culture in one of the world's most peaceful settings. However, despite Reykjavik's very low crime level, the city has the top 10's second-highest crime rate increase in the past five years (57.85).

The German city known for its vibrant beer scene and incredible architecture, is a safe destination in Europe. Despite having the highest crime rate increase score of the top 10 (57.88), visitors can feel secure in Bavaria's capital due to its "very low" crime level (15.86), allowing them to let their hair down and enjoy their Munich experience.

The Dutch capital, known for its historic canals and cultural institutions like the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Anne Frank House, has a "low" crime level and "moderate" crime increase, 27.39 and 43.70, respectively, giving it a status as a safe destination.
With a "low" crime level (20.7) and a "moderate" crime increase in the past five years (43.61), Kraków, home to Europe's largest medieval market square, represents one of the continent's safest cities.

The "City of a Hundred Spires," coined for its spire-filled skyline, offers visitors the perfect combination of safety and spectacular sightseeing. While the Czech capital received a "moderate" 44.05 score for crime increasing in the past five years, its "very low" crime level score, 16.83, earns it a spot among the top three safest cities in Europe.

The Polish capital's "moderate" crime increase in the past five years (40.74) and "very low" crime level (19.45) make it a safe destination. Warsaw's remarkable post-war reconstruction efforts have created a city where visitors can safely explore rebuilt historic quarters and gleaming contemporary districts.
Tallinn offers visitors one of Northern Europe's most secure urban experiences. Those visiting this beautiful medieval city, another UNESCO World Heritage site, can feel more at ease, knowing they're in one of the safest destinations in Europe.

With an 8.76 score from Numbeo for its crime level, indicating a "very low" amount, and a "low" 35.38 for crime increasing in the past five years, the Croatian city is the safest in Europe.
This UNESCO World Heritage gem, famously known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic", allows visitors to walk through medieval streets and along pristine city walls safely.
