The final September international break in its current format is upon us, with changes set to be implemented by FIFA next year that will impact both Manchester United and Manchester City.
Currently, players from the majority of Premier League clubs are representing their countries on international duty. The September international window often arrives too soon for some, with additional breaks in October and November causing further disruption to the domestic season.
However, FIFA has revised its schedule for the future, meaning there will only be three international windows per season following next year's World Cup.
The governing body intends to merge the September and October windows into one extended break, prioritising international football over club commitments during this period.
Consequently, this will be the last time players join their national teams at the beginning of September, with the new format due to come into effect next year.

A longer 16-day international window will take place from 21st September to 6th October next year, allowing each nation to play up to four matches.
This will then be followed by the usual nine-day, two-match windows in November and March, ensuring countries play the same number of games while minimising disruption to club football.
Once the Premier League resumes next weekend, Ruben Amorim's side will face their local rivals, City, at the Etihad Stadium.
The match is scheduled for 14th September at 4:30pm.
