Serie A outfit Lazio have evicted the employee who handled the club's eagle mascot from his accommodation, after he posted pictures of his own prosthetic penis online. Falconer Juan Bernabe had undergone penile surgery for non-medical reasons and later took to social media to show off his new manhood.
Bernabe had been initially sacked by the Italian giant in January amid plenty of controversy, with the eagle handler claiming the surgery had left him feeling "very proud" and "more masculine". However, Bernabe was dealt a double blow this month, when he was forced to leave his accommodation at the club's training ground.
In a statement, the Rome-based side said: "SS Lazio announces that, in execution of an order issued by the Judge of the Court of Tivoli, this morning the eviction was carried out against the former falconer Juan Bernabe, who was occupying an apartment within the Formello sports centre without title. The decision follows the termination of the contract already occurred months ago for behaviours deemed incompatible with the ethical values of the Club.
"The Company, after numerous invitations to spontaneously vacate the property, has acted in the competent offices to protect its assets and the operation of the sports environment. Every action has been undertaken in full compliance with the law, with the firm desire to guarantee order, legality and decorum within its facilities".
It brings to an end a saga that captured plenty of attention in Italy, with Bernabe grabbing plenty of headlines in the Italian media. The former Lazio falconer had appeared on radio shows explaining his decision to go under the knife and have penis surgery.
A statement released by Lazio at the time read: "Shocked to see the photographic images and video of Mr. Juan Bernabe and to read the statements that accompanied them, Lazio announces that it has stopped, with immediate effect, all relationship with this person, given the seriousness of his behaviour. The club realises - and shares - the pain that the fans will feel at the loss of the eagle in the next home games, but believes that it is not possible to be associated ... with a person who, by his own initiative, has made the continuation of the relationship unacceptable."
Bernabe, who said he had no regrets about sharing the images, was previously suspended by Lazio for performing a fascist salute at the end of a match.
The falconer also chanted "Duce, Duce," which is the name used to refer to the former fascist Italian leader Benito Mussolini by supporters.
