Marcus Rashford reportedly made a surprise appearance at Manchester United's training ground on Monday and Tuesday, despite being told he could stay away while he finds a new club. And the 27-year-old forward awkwardly will have been preparing for the new season at Carrington when United confirmed that he had been stripped of the No. 10 shirt.

On Tuesday, the Red Devils announced that their new recruit, Matheus Cunha, will be donning Rashford's number this season.

The Brazilian, who joined from Wolves in a £62.5million deal on June 1, was spotted wearing the No. 10 during his first pre-season training session with the team under Ruben Amorim.

Suggestions emerged last week that Rashford would be relinquishing the number he has worn since 2018 as he explores a permanent departure.

It was also disclosed that United have permitted the England international, along with four other players, to delay their return to training.

Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho had all been granted extra time to consider potential transfers before the summer window closes on September 1.

However, The Athletic report that Rashford has attended Carrington with his team-mates this week but has trained individually, away from Amorim's sessions.

Barcelona are currently leading the race for his signature, with United setting a £40m asking price - the same amount Aston Villa declined to pay following his loan spell.

However, Barca are more inclined towards a loan agreement due to their ongoing financial difficulties, which are hampering their ability to register new players with La Liga.

This issue recently led to them missing out on the £58m signing of Nico Williams from Athletic Club, as they were unable to assure the winger of his registration.

Liverpool star Luis Diaz appears eager to make the switch to Barcelona, with manager Hansi Flick hailing both him and Rashford as 'fantastic players'.

Just last month, Rashford's brother and representative, Dwaine Maynard, was seen in discussions with Barca's sporting director Deco.

The Red Devils' discontented forward is reportedly open to accepting a major salary reduction from his £325,000 per week wages to join Flick's squad, who have clinched the domestic treble.

When quizzed by Spanish YouTuber XBuyer on whether he'd relish playing with Barcelona's prodigious talent Lamine Yamal, Rashford responded positively.

"Yeah, sure," he replied. "Everybody in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully, we'll see."

Further, Rashford likened his game to that of former Barca forward Thierry Henry, stating: "I see myself reflected in Henry. He's comfortable playing on the left and also in the middle. He's a free player.

"I've grown more accustomed to the number 9 role; it feels more natural now.

"Playing with my back to goal has become simpler for me. It means you're always facing the net and pose a constant threat."
