This pretty seaside town has a big-city buzz about it, with an exciting street-food scene, bustling bazaars, great-value bars and a castle dating back to the crusades - so literally something for everyone. Now it is on a list of seven new routes Ryanair have launched from London Stansted this summer. Flight time to Bodrum is three hours and 40 minutes from London Stansted.

Bodrum boasts numerous bays and beaches with crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. The town itself is filled with historical landmarks, including the Castle of Bodrum, remnants of ancient sites, and charming old streets. Summer temperatures regularly hit the low to mid-thirties.

The resort town is a heady mix of relaxation, adventure, and nightlife, with options ranging from exploring the peninsula's hidden coves to enjoying lively bars on Bar Street, making it hugely popular with British tourists, but there is much more to Bodrum than beer and sunburn.

While Bodrum has previously been known as a mass-market tourist resort, these are located more out of town, and the centre of Bodrum consists of charming streets, a relaxing harbour area, and lovely markets, giving it an authentic Turkish vibe.

Bodrum, or Halicarnassus as it was called in ancient times, was once the home of Herodotus, the Father of History. You can even see one of the seven wonders of the ancient world in Bodrum, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. It was a magnificent tomb built for King Mausolus of the Achaemenid empire, located in Halicarnassus (present-day Bodrum). The tomb was so impressive that the word "mausoleum" is now used for many monumental tombs.

The mausoleum, once square and pillared and standing about 45 metres in height, dates back to the late 4th century BC. Nowadays, the broken pillars and stones still convey a sense of what once must have been a magnificent tribute to the king who chose Halicarnassus/Bodrum for his home.

Other places worth visiting are the Castle of St. Peter, the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology with artifacts from underwater excavations dating back to the 12th century, and Bodrum Amphitheater.

Budget airline Ryanair has launched 7 new routes from London Stansted for the summer of 2025, including Bodrum and another Turkish destination popular with Brits Dalaman. Other new destinations include Reggio Calabria in Italy, Linz in Austria, Clermont-Ferrand in France and Munster and Lubeck in Germany
