Radio DJ and broadcaster Sara Cox has opened up about her "insecurities" on BBC Radio 2. The 50-year-old presenter has worked on the drivetime slot since 2019 and was previously fronting the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show. Speaking exclusively with Express Online, Sara detailed what she loves the most about her job and how she uses her spare time outside of work. She has also teamed up with Holland & Barratt for a new campaign to help re-energise the nation with 'Sunrise Sessions' to get people's day off to an energising start.
Speaking about her career, she said: "The teatime listeners just never fail to come up with some hilarious stories. If I'm trying to come up with a feature that will be silly and we won't do the feature, but they'll come up with some hilarious pun-based titles for the future. They're a massive part of the show really."
Sara also added: "I'm always looking forward to the radio because it's sort of my dream job, and I always arrive pretty happy to be there."
She also admitted she can sometimes feel the pressure to make sure she is bringing a good show to viewers, as she said: "I'm massively insecure. I've got youngest child syndrome, trying to jazz hands around and make people laugh, trying to entertain people."
Outside of work, Sara tries not to take naps and instead focuses on meditation and movement: "I can squeeze in an hour-long pilates. I need to save some energy for the actual radio, and if I feel like my brain is a bit frazzled, I'd love to get into meditation, you know, I need to find the time for it, really, to do it properly."
When quizzed about another dream career away from radio, she replied: "I've liked the idea actually of stand up because I feel like the stuff that I do on the radio isn't that far away sometimes, you know, I'm just trying to tell a story that's got a bit of a punchline, but I've always been too chicken to do it."
Sara has recently teamed up with Holland & Barratt to headline 'H&B Sunrise Sessions' - a series of early morning wellness raves across the UK that charge the nation from sunrise to sunset, energising their minds through music, powering up their bodies through movement, and encouraging reset through sleep and nutrition.
It comes after it was revealed that the nation is experiencing an energy slump. 27% cite regularly being too tired for physical exercise, while 1 in 10 (12%) workers admit to being too tired to work and pulling a 'sickie,' and 23% have admitted their mental health has been affected.
Speaking about the campaign, Sara Cox said: "I'm thrilled to be headlining H&B's Sunrise Sessions and help energise the nation. My personal wellness journey has seen me swap late nights for early morning workouts, healthier nutrition and sleep routines. I've found the combination of the things I love - music, movement and morning twilight has helped me to improve and sustain my energy levels throughout the day. I look forward to sharing the experience with morning ravers this summer."
H&B Sunrise Sessions tickets cost £10 per person and can be booked HERE.
