Making a cake needn't be difficult, in fact if you follow a simple cake recipe, you'll end up with a delicious homemade treat in no time. Freshly-made cake is much tastier than shop-bought - and this recipe is an exciting mix of two British staples, it really ticks all the boxes of taste and presentation and it's easy and quick to make.
This cake is 'full of flavour and has a light but moist texture', reports the Green Thumb Foodie website. The chocolate cake is 'so quick to make because all the ingredients are measured and then mixed together all at once', the food writer said. Green Thumb Foodie also pointed out that as well as being simple to make in one bowl, even the washing up is a breeze afterwards.
The chocolate cake is really tasty with one extra ingredient, walnuts, but you can switch this to coconut if you wish, either will make the cake 'delicious'.
It seems perhaps inspired from the classic coffee and walnut type cake, but with all the deliciousness of a typical chocolate sponge cake, yet even more delightful.
The walnuts give the chocolate cake a really great texture - and once you've made it you'll no doubt revisit this recipe time and time again.
Green Thumb Foodie describes this recipe as a 'One Bowl Chocolate Walnut Cake' with a prep time of 30 minutes and a cooking time of 40 minutes.
It is a great dessert, an afternoon treat - or you could even indulge in it for a sweet chocolatey breakfast.
This is everything you need, as described on the Green Thumb Foodie website:

Cake ingredients
1 ½ cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 cup milk
Buttercream frosting
3 cups icing sugar
3/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 - 2 tablespoons milk
The step by step instructions for this cake recipe are as follows - and come from the Green Thumb Foodie website which also has a helpful video for the method of making this dessert
Step 1
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F
Step 2
Grease and base line a 9-inch spring cake pan
Step 3
Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl and start on low speed
Step 4
Once all ingredients are combined, switch to high speed and beat for 1 minute
Step 5
Pour the batter into your prepared cake pan and smooth out the top
Step 6
Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick or skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean
Step 7
Cool for 10 minutes in the pan and then remove from the cake pan and finish cooling on a cooling rack
Then, you need to prep the frosting - and the method for the buttercream icing are also detailed by the Green Thumb Foodie website - which you will slather on to the cooled cake once ready.
For the buttercream - Firstly, beat the butter until soft, then 'sift the icing sugar and cocoa powder together'.
Next, you must gradually 'beat in the icing sugar and cocoa into the butter until smooth'.
Then you can add 'enough milk to make a smooth spreadable consistency' - and once the cake has completely cooled, ice it with the buttercream, then enjoy!
