Anupam Kher remembers his 'Cheerful Friend' Mukul Dev: 'He always used to laugh'

Veteran actor Anupam Kher has expressed deep grief over the unexpected passing of his friend and co-star Mukul Dev, who died at the age of 54 on Saturday.



Anupam shared the video with a caption that read, “मुकुल देव! मेरे दोस्त। #MukulDev.”

Sharing a heartfelt video on Instagram, Anupam Kher said, “I just came to know that my close friend Mukul Dev is no more..”

“It’s unbelievable. It’s so sad”

He further said, “It’s unbelievable. It’s so sad. Even the word ‘Sad’ is not enough to define the feeling.” The two had grown close while working together on ‘Chaar Din Ki Chandani’ and stayed in touch long after the shoot ended.

Remembering Mukul’s vibrant personality, Anupam Kher said, “He always used to laugh… He used to tell me, ‘Kher, what else will you teach me? Teach me something about life.’” Kher added, “It was too early for you to go, my friend, but the world will miss you.”

Bollywood fraternity shares tributesMukul Dev’s sudden demise has left the film industry shaken. Actor Ajay Devgn, who worked with Mukul in ‘Son of Sardaar’, shared his grief on Instagram, writing, “Still trying to process it... Mukul, it’s all too soon and sudden. You had a way of making everything lighter, even on the heaviest days. Om Shanti.”

Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who shared the screen with Mukul in the 1996 film Dastak, took to X (formerly Twitter) to post, “Mukul was a brother in spirit, an artist whose warmth and passion were unmatched. Gone too soon, too young.” He also offered prayers for Mukul’s family and added, “Miss you meri jaan… until we meet again, Om Shanti.”

Sonu Sood wrote on social media, “RIP Mukul bhai. You were a gem. Will always miss you. Stay strong Rahul Dev bhai.”

Remembering Mukul Dev

Mukul Dev was known for his diverse body of work across Hindi, Punjabi, South Indian cinema, and television. On the big screen, he was seen in hit films such as ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, ‘Son of Sardaar’, ‘R... Rajkumar’, and ‘Jai Ho’. Mukul also played a pivotal role in the Malayalam film ‘My Story’ starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead.
