Simple ways to store garlic for over a month in summer

Send Push
Retaining the freshness of veggies and herbs during the summer season can be quite a task; this is because the extreme heat can often lead to faster spoilage of fresh produce like garlic. Well, if you too are looking for a quick solution to store garlic for over a month, then follow us through these easy ways to store garlic. Read on and try out…

Storing in vinegar
One of the lesser-known yet highly effective methods for preserving garlic in summer is storing peeled cloves in vinegar or wine. This method not only extends the shelf life of garlic for over a month but also infuses it with subtle, tangy flavors. You can use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar for best results. Simply peel the garlic cloves, place them in a clean glass jar, and cover them completely with the liquid. Store the jar in the refrigerator to keep it fresh and safe. This method also reduces the harshness of raw garlic, making it ideal for salad dressings and marinades.

Garlic paste

While freezing whole garlic cloves is a known method, turning garlic into a paste before freezing is less common and far more convenient. To do this, blend peeled garlic cloves with a bit of oil until you get a smooth paste. Spoon the paste into ice cube trays or small containers and freeze. Once frozen, transfer the cubes into a freezer-safe bag. This method allows you to store garlic for several months and makes it easy to pop out a cube for instant use in cooking, without any chopping or peeling.

Storing in a pot
Traditional storage methods often hold the best secrets. Storing garlic bulbs in a clay pot or earthenware jar is an old technique that works especially well in summer. These containers allow air circulation and naturally regulate moisture, preventing the garlic from rotting or sprouting. Place the garlic bulbs in the pot, cover loosely, and keep it in a cool, dark place. The porous nature of clay helps keep humidity at bay, preserving the garlic’s texture and flavor for weeks, sometimes even months.

Garlic Powder
A highly efficient but underrated method is dehydrating garlic to make homemade garlic powder or garlic chips. Slice the cloves thinly and dry them using a food dehydrator or a conventional oven at a low temperature (about 120°F or 50°C) until completely dry and crisp. Once dehydrated, you can grind them into powder or store the chips in an airtight container. This not only prevents spoilage during hot summer months but also offers a convenient seasoning that’s ready to use anytime, without worrying about garlic going bad.
